Quote: "It's about damn time" StarCraft 2 Trailer. This just made my day. lol
Although I wasn't following the situation (I gave up hope) - I knew FASA went under but not much else; I was actually hoping that MechWarrior 5 might have been one of the secret Gearbox projects. Now I guess we just have to hope there is a PC version and that it isn't strictly console. Thanks for the info JGZ, and good eye!! |

Ok, too excited for the info to sink in. I does appear to be PC.

BTW, here's the perfect chance for NB to branch out. You can be sure that there will be at least player with tags in an online Mech game - although I'm
starting to have second thoughts about my name. It just appears to me that Star Fox is a bit out dated. Ah, don't mind me. Just ranting a bit.

It's 360 and PC, by the guys that got the rights from Microsoft, but were some of the original devs.
IGN has the full trailer and new news.

I took the time to look at the full trailer, and it looks good. The view from the cockpit - including the HUD look more lifelike and real, but I'm kind of
hoping that an Atlas (any mech for that matter) looks a bit better in the actual game.
My only beef is that it won't be MW 5 - instead they appear to be rebuilding the franchise from the ground up. This makes me theorize that some of the mechs that we grew accustomed to piloting in MW 4 & it's expansions won't be available for play. I could also surmize that there may be new mechs to play (technically older models by the timeline). Still, things look pretty exciting for the game and I can't wait to get my hands on it. Second beef: Judging from what I can see, game developers are kind of in a rush (now) to get new PC titles out there. I see two problems with this: 1. This isn't the best economy in which to start pushing new titles - although more people are staying at home rather than traveling. 2. Developers are beginning to create a bit of a bottleneck for us players. Although it is very common for most people to jump from game to game when it comes to their older games - players of newer games typically like to conquer one game at a time. In my case, I conquer the game on every level and then I go to multiplayer for an even longer period of time. Also, not everybody out there is willing to buy more than one or two games at a clip because of cost. I simply feel, that with so many PC titles in the works, developers need to be extra smart about when they decide to release them, and they should be comitted to making good sequels. After all it is feast or famine with PC games - taking into consideration that last 10 years of games has been rather choppy due to the shift from PC titles to console titles. Examples by Copyrights: Tachyon The Fringe 2000-2001, MW 4 Vengence & BK 1998-2000, MW 4 Mercenaries 2000-2002, Alien vs Predator 2 - 2002, and StarCraft & SC BroodWars 1998-2000. That is simply just too long of a time to let such great PC titles sit there before making sequels 8-10 years later.
On a good note: It is perhaps good that they waited as long as they did based on the technilogical advancement of computer components and operating systems. These sequels will be able to take full advantage of 16 GB + Ram, Dual Video cards, and multicore processors - possibly even technologies that are soon to come.

I agree the cockpit is nice... has an element of realism that I'd like to include in my FS hud designs.
From what I understand MW4 and all it's expansions are going to be free via some mech net thing endorsed by these same guys... I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I played MW back when it came on floppies and it was pretty terrible... tried playing heavy gear and couldn't figure out the controls... played the battetech games on the genesis... liked that although it was top down... Mech Assault was ok on the Xbox... but it just felt like a slug match between tanks, no real tactics. So I tend to fall more towards the Gundams and ZOE games with high speed movements.

My first experience with MechWarrior was on Super Nintendo.........I think it was Super Nintendo. The graphics sucked but the game play wasn't bad at the
time. Same way with Star Fox and Top Gun - playing these evolved into me playing Tach. I never played the first pc versions of MW but I bought MW 3 later on
after I had MW 4 and its expansions. That was a wasted 10 bucks - didn't work well with my newer stick so I gave it away after the 5th or 6th try.
What's all the fuss about?? I guess that goes back to different peeps like different things. For me, my console days have been long gone, except for the ocassional game of Wi Sports with the kids. I never liked first person shooters either untill I got a copy of A vs P 2 and now I have Left 4 Dead, soon to have Left 4 Dead 2. and A vs P Colonial Marines. StarCraft - a big fan, along with Mech Commander 2, but WarCraft and Diablo don't do it for me. I got to have technology, strategy, horror, fast action, and maybe a bit of role playing - explains Neverwinter 2. Id love to see someone create an official Baulders Gate/Neverwinter Knights 2 game that had much more adult content and romance scripts though. Would I buy Assasins Creed 2 or a Medal of Honor series? Probably not, because I'm picky and I seem to buy games from the same companies as well. |

Dunno about branchin out as NB used to have some players in Mech years ago.
Rock was one n IK n VA n HP all had Mech teams. I don't like the basic look of this claimed new game the graphics look ropey. Best thing can happen to Mech Warrior is a good game house takes it on and perhaps using the old story line brings it to X-Box but rather than as third person in the old X-Box games make it bang up to date for 360 as a FPS. |
